Terrence Donnelly Centre, University of Toronto

Behnisch Architects designed the Donnelly Center for for Cellular and Biomolecular Research in the University of Toronto in Ontario, completed in 2005. A circular metal penthouse crowns and glass box. The tower is cut in the middle to bring it down to the scale of the neighboring brick Mining Building. The fritted glass planes have a variety of opacities and colors behind.

The digital nature of the building gives way to green nature inside, with bamboo trees filling the atrium. Multicolored skylights brighten the lobby space, and warm paneling wraps around masonry and metal.
