Museum Of Islamic Art, Doha Qatar

I.M. Pei designed the Doha Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, completed in 2008. He chose to create an artificial peninsula for the site, a 195 stretch of land in the center of the city that dots a crescent shaped shore. The iconic building is thus apart from the unsightly urban city yet uses it as a background. Steeped walls surround a 5-story domed atrium. A 45m glazed wall faces the city, with a grand staircase and star-shaped fountain below.

Typical for I.M. Pei, the museum erupts from profound geometry, with light and shadow evolving simple forms into complex shapes.
