Mughal Architecture To Be Documented In Database

The American Institute of Indian Studies is preparing a database for documentation of architecture from India’s Mughal period. This study of over 100 monuments includes photography and site maps of mosques, tombs, and other monuments.

Until its overthrow in 1857 by Britain, the Mughal empire ruled over India. The imperial Islamic power started in 1526 under Babur. The mix of strict Islamic architecture with the regional Hindu architecture that was already present in India provides a facinating mix.
