The £350 million Highcross Leicester development in Leicester by Foreign Office Architects is one of several projects revolutionizing international style in architecture. Reaching for the Art Nouveau movement, a wide variety of materials are used that also recall Leicester’s history with textiles and fabric. The laser-cut exterior patterns are back-lit at night like enormous drapes. This complex arrangement of transparent screens and glazing sensitively complements the neighboring cinema.
The Highcross development will have a restaurant quarter styled after London’s Covent Garden as well as the four-storey John Lewis department store. |
