Hyogo prefectural Museum of Art, Nada-ku Kobe Japan

Tadao Ando designed the Hyogo prefecture Museum of Art in Kobe Japan, completed in 2002. Ando uses his sculptural concrete forms with well placed transparencies. Art is displayed in concrete and glass walls. Two bulky buildings are split by a swirling staircase, standing next to the harbor waterfront. The four story building uses steel and rubber dampers to prevent seismic disaster.
