Cooper Gary and Van Aukin Akins Architects designed the Cleveland Downtown next to the convention center and will open in July 2016, in time for the Republican National Convention. The $465m convention center and adjacent projects were financed with a sales tax. The political schedule of this project is appropriate, as Cuyahoga County mandated at least 15% of space go to female-owned businesses and 15% to minority-owned businesses.
The tower rises 28 stories and includes 600 rooms.
