Heron Tower, London

Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the Heron Tower in London England, near the Gherkin and St Paul’s Cathedral. At 230m tall it is the third tallest structure in London.

The building is grouped into eleven “villages” each with their own atrium and business amenities. The split between these three-story areas is evident from the exterior. A three story sky bar brings luxury to the top floors. Solar panels cast a tiny dent into the building’s energy usage. The relationship to the Swiss Re can be seen in the clean glass facade treatment and revealing of structure along the vertical length. The project cost £500m and was completed in 2010, just in time for the economic recession to go from bad to worse.
