Gasworks Alliance, Dublin

O’Mahony Pike designed The Alliance apartments at the Gasometer building in Dublin Ireland. It was completed in 2008. This adaptive reuse of old gas tanks is similar to Gasometer in Wien, Germany.

The exterior is rather cold and unappealing for living, but the interior courtyard is warm and full of greenery. Structure and architectural elements are well articulated. The original 1885 frame rises nine storeys, distinct from the new structure, and circular to afford good views for each unit.
