Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto Ontario

Ross & Macdonald and Sproatt & Rolph designed the Fairmont York Hotel in Toronto Canada. Completed in June 11, 1929, it was the tallest building in the entire British Empire at the time and considered an important innovation in the technological innovation of high rises.

The Fairmont is a mesh of Gothic Revival with the modern skyscraper. Popular to be seen in Chicago and New York, Ross & Macdonald had previously worked with dark Gothic styles in previous buildings, such as the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in 1915.

Each room was equipped with its own radio and private bath, and the concert hall had the largest pipe organ in Canada. The Imperial Room nightclub was a popular hangout, and underwent a full renovation in the early nineties, along with the rest of the hotel.
