Elbphilharmonie Hall, Hamburg

Herzog & de Meuron designed the Elbe Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg, Germany. It is still under construction though it was scheduled to be completed in 2012. Cost rose from €241 million to €450 million in the struggling HafenCity development.

The glass structure uses a tent-like roof line to appear light and floating. Half-circle windows and a gap at the bottom of the glass structure reinforce this mimicry. The interior is whitewashed and curved, with meandering paths and organic arrangements of the concert hall. It sits atop a brick warehouse designed by Wener Kallmorgen in 1963.

More pictures will come as it is completed.
