Cloth Hall, Ypres Belgium

Completed in 1304, the Cloth Hall in the wealthy medieval trade town Ypres (Ieper) Belgium was one of the largest commercial buildings of the Middle Ages. It accommodated the town archives, a treasury, an armory and a prison. It also had a watchtower with a gidled dragon that overlooks the city as its symbol. Today it serves as the town hall. A new addition’s “Nieuwerck,” Renaissance style, contrasts to the original Gothic structure.
