Bloomingdale Westfield Centre, San Francisco Calfornia

The 1908 Emporium dome by Albert Pissis gestures the shopper into the Bloomingdale at the Westfield Mall, the largest mall in the west. Opening in 2006, this development by The Westfield Group and Forest City Commercial Group renovated 500,000ft2 of historical architecture while adding 1 million ft2. It sits conveniently between Union Square and Yerba Buena Gardens, and at the intersection of BART lines and bus routes. The renovation restored the exterior to its original 1896 appearance. KA Architects, Kohn Pederson Fox, and RTKL contributed to the project.

The contemporary touches, the illuminated floors, walls, and skylights, combine with the historic skylighting and Victorian style, create an interesting experience. This gives the shopper an experience rich with history, social events, and modern technology.
