Fuji Television Headquarters, Odaiba Tokyo Japan

China’s CCTV monument to its media was a response to Japan’s head office of Fuji Television in Odaiba. A similar eccentric super-structure was found long before in this project. Kenzo Tange’s design for Fuji’s headquarters was built in 1995.

The 1,200 pound ball stands out due to its different color, yet it fits as a similar material and detailing. The architectural staple brings to memory Fuji TV’s logo, which has straight lines radiating from a red ball. It can thus be considered the “heart” with a grid structure of arteries radiating out to the body of the building.
