The Millennium Bridge over the River Thames has taken its place as cultural staple in England. Arup, Foster and Partners and Sir Anthony Caro designed this suspension bridge for pedestrians, which opened in 2000.
The bridge establishes a strong connection between St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern museum. The angled structural components help frame views of these two destinations. Most of the structure is below walking-level, however, which opens up sweeping views of the city. The sides illuminate at night from the bottom, further supporting these views.
