Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden Germany

The Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden was designed by Richard Meier, who did the Getty Center. Winner of several top awards, the museum opened in 2004.

Meier was sensitive to the surrounding museum and Lichtentaler Allee Park. A skybridge with glazed sides connects it to the existing Kunsthalle. While keeping the scale of the surroundings, Meier uses the German Expressionism particular to the museum’s art collection.

Meier employs his typical geometry and white metal materials, but it comes together in a pattern particular to the place.
