Multiverse, National Gallery of Art Washington DC

Here’s an amazing art installation at the concourse walkway between the East and West Buildings of the National Gallery of Art. Leo Villareal programed 41,000 LED lights to flash interesting patterns as visitors pass through a moving walkway. The sequences effect the perception of space and movement.

I remember as a small child looking at the dark ceiling of my bedroom and seeing moving geometrical patterns, my brain playing tricks. In much the same way, this exhibit takes nothing and creates universe based on memory and pure design intent. The exhibit opened this November.
