Cité de la Mode et du Design, Docks en Seine Paris

Jakob + MacFarlane designed the City of Fashion and Design on the docks of Seine’s Left Bank. The green metal pipe structure envelopes an existing 1907 concrete warehouse which generated the logic for the new structure. It serves as circulation to the various spaces with ramps and stairs that reflect the fluidity of the river and exchange of ideas. The concrete structure connects to the original industrial context.

Most of the warehouse is filled with exhibit for the fashion school Institute Français de la Mode. There are also cafés, restaurants, music production studios, and a bookstore. A rooftop park above the four stories provides a social outdoor space and, along with the nightime glow, greatly contributes to the Paris skyline.

It was completed in 2008.
