Longitude 131, Yulara Australia

The Longitude 131° luxury camp in Yulara, Northern Territory, Australia consists of 15 tents in a wide arc surrounding Ayers Rock. Ayers Rock is sacred to the Aborigines, so the camp keeps its respectful distance. Designed by Cox Richardson, it was completed in 2002. It is an extension of Philip Cox’s Yulara Tourist Resort near Kata Tjuta National Park.

Sliding panels open up half a facade of each box-shaped room. The sweeping windows of the south facades angle out toward a clear view of the landscape. Three layers of fabric roof protect against the heat, and the hotel is elevated in steel stilts.
