Asymptote took on this awkward, tight fitting site in Soho,New York City for Italian housewares manufacturer Alessi. Designing for an espresso bar as well as typical retail space, they gave each element a distinction. Striped boxes of light give a place for each product while the bar takes on a cross-linear geometry.
The result is a journey through the thing space that can all be seen from the glazed entrance. The lighting and decoration, such as the Italian-reminiscent colors, dramatize the products and the experience. It was completed in 2007. |
