America’s Cup Pavilion, Valencia Spain

The America’s Cup Building ‘Veles e Vents’ (Sails and Winds) and park by David Chipperfield Architects was built for the 2007 America’s Cup in offshore racing. Bars, restaurants, and information booths can be found in the elevation pedestrian zones for viewing. Layers of horizontal planes shift around for views and shading. Up to 60 percent of these slabs are outdoor zones. Below that, the park stretches along the shore. The building carefully mixes white concrete and wood interior.

The building opened in 2006 and was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize 2007.
