Rheinisches Landesmuseum, Bonn Germany

One of the oldest museums in Germany, the Association of Rhineland landscape’s Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn. The glass case with steel structure encloses the building itself for display. It also provides a sun space for natural heating and ventilation in the chilly climate of Bonn. The angled windows of the wood facades are also daylighted to receive direct light only at opportune times. The wood is perhaps a comment that Germany’s historic preference for wood as a building material trumps stone, which is commonly regarded as historic. Restaurant seating, sculpture, and historical architectural pieces fill up the inbetween.

Bonn received this modern renovation in 2003 by Architektengruppe Stuttgart.
