Expo 2008, Zaragoza Spain

The Expo Zaragoza 2008 is open until September 14. This year focuses on “water and sustainable development,” with a long list of pavilions and shows suggesting how water helps in sustainable development. The important sights start with Hadid’s Bridge Pavilion (see here).

The Water Tower by Enrique de Teresa expresses a verticality of water dropping onto earth. It shows the “importance of water as an essential element for water and the survival of the planet.” The Aquarium by Álvaro Planchuelo, the largest fresh-water aquarium in Europe, exhibits five local river basins, setting the visitors as “protagonists in the different ecosystem settings.” The United States doesn’t have a pavilion.
